Youth volunteer at Deaf school

Posted by Bwcarchives on

WOLFSVILLE - Youth and young adults from Salem UMC spent a week in mid-July on a mission trip to Harvest Deaf Ministries in Ringgold, Ga. The ministry operates a Deaf Bible college and a Christian school for the Deaf, the only 'Christian' Deaf school in the United States.

Led by associate pastor, the Rev. Katie Bishop, the group worked on campus buildings and grounds, clearing land, demolishing old buildings and sidewalk and refurbishing classrooms. They were joined in their efforts by a group from northern Virginia.

For many, the best part of the week was the interaction they had with Deaf students and staff, as well as worship at the Harvest Baptist Church for the Deaf, experiencing hymns, prayers and the pastor's sermon all in sign language.
