Youth learn how others live

Posted by Bwcarchives on

ROCKVILLE ? This summer, seven youth and five adults from Faith UMC joined hundreds of other United Methodist youth in work camp experiences this summer.

The youth of Faith went to Albemarle County, N.C., and worked in historic Elizabeth City. A few blocks from the tourist attractions are weather-beaten homes, in serious need of repair, that are owned by elderly and disadvantaged people, said the Rev. Corey Sharpe. With assistance from the River City Community Development Corporation, the youth and adults did a variety of home repairs that included painting, building wheelchair ramps and rebuilding porches.

Through their service, (the youth) gained a life-changing understanding about the true meaning of servant hood,' Sharpe said. The experience helps them grow in their Christian faith, he added.
