Youth group rock-a-thon helps child

WOLFSVILLE ? King?s Kids, the eight-member youth group of Garfield UMC, on the Wolfsville Charge, recent invited the community to join them in rocking chairs in their second annual rock-a-thon.

'Kids came from Wolfsville, Myersville, Smithsburg, Thurmont, Waynesboro, Catoctin Furnace and Middletown,' said Jeannette Kuhn, the Garfield youth advisor.

Their mission was to raise money to support a young child with a brain tumor.

The youth did not know MacKenzie Stuck, an 8-year-old girl from Mt. Airy, but they read about her and wanted to contribute to her medical and therapeutic costs. MacKenzie?s parents brought her to the church to join in the event. She stayed a short while and enjoyed the cake with a smiley face, made especially for her.

'Everyone was blessed by her visit to Garfield and prays for her restoration to good health and normal activities,' Kuhn said.

The event, which kept the chairs rocking from 6 p.m. to midnight, raised $3,300.
