Youth achieves success at lacrosse

Magazine named Jenny Deans, who attends Mt. Zion UMC, National Pre- Season Player of the Year for the women's junior college ranks.


Deans was selected all-American defensive player last year when she was a freshman at Anne Arundel Community College. She told the magazine, ' My faith helps me get through everything. ? I just try to be a positive person, to help my team stay positive and play fair.? I pull all my strength from God,' her uncle, the Rev. Ramon McDonald II, reported.

Deans is the great granddaughter, granddaughter, sister and niece of United Methodist pastors. She will continue her studies and athletic endeavors at Pfeiffer University in Misenhimer, N.C., in the fall.

 The liturgical dance team from Ames UMC in Bel Air performed during Black Methodists for Church Renewal's African-American heritage celebration Feb. 27 at Northwood-Appold UMC in Baltimore. The Service of Worship and Praise also featured the Rev. Yvette D. Massey, senior associate pastor of Cascade UMC in Atlanta, who preached on 'The Spirit of Unity,' Holy Communion celebrated by Bishop John R. Schol and an offering to provide scholarships to BMCR's annual Harambee youth retreat.
