Young people score for mission
BROOK HILL - More than 30 young people participated in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at Brook Hill UMC in November. They weren?t just playing for fun, but to raise money for the Nothinng But Nets campaign.
Nothing But Nets is a national campaign, supported and promoted by The United Methodist Church, to provide pesticide-treated mosquito nets to protect children from malaria in developing countries of Africa. Nearly 30,000 children a day die of malaria, the most deadly killer of children in the world.
For $10, United Methodists, in a unique partnership with Sports Illustrated magazine and the United Nations Foundation, can protect a child?s sleeping space - and life.
The young people of Brook Hill UMC, under the leadership of 18-year-old Tony LaBarbera, raised $780. Nothing But Nets is an Advance Special, #982015. For more information see www.nothingbutnets.net.
