Young adult reflections of UM Student Forum 2003

The United Methodist Student Forum 2003 was held at Albright College in Reading, Pa., over Memorial Day weekend. The forum is a leadership development conference for college and university students. The theme of this years conference was The Road Less Traveled.

The Baltimore-Washington Conference sent nine student delegates to the conference, and what follows are some of their reflections:

In my second year at forum I found myself much more at home. We were blessed to hear some incredible preachers. I had an amazing time and can now come back to the University of Maryland with both my experience and lots of ideas from campus ministries across the country.

Jennifer Allain, University of Maryland, College Park

I was particularly pushed and challenged by my choice of the community outreach project. Non-intimidating door-to-door evangelism was something that was outside of my box, but I decided to allow God to push me. It was a very transforming experience for me to step outside my comfort zone and tell people about this new church.

Sidney Raynham, American University

It was so good to see young people from all parts of the United States and other countries come together to worship our one true God. This was really touching.

Allen Gomorra, Howard University

I learned that it is normal to doubt your call from time to time and that God sometimes calls those who are not expecting a call. The workshops helped me to realize that God really is calling me to serve in ministry.

Frankie Revell, Frostburg University

I was nominated for the National Steering Committee, and was nervous and doubtful. But when I was elected to the committee I realized that I have nothing to fear because God is always with me regardless of whatever I may be feeling or going through.

Krystal Grant, Howard University

It was such a great time to feel really connected with God and what God is doing around the world which was expressed in the plenaries, workshops and all the people from so many different places.

Chris DiPompeo, University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus

We have to be open to new ideas and fully listen to peoples points of view before we make decisions about them. I also learned that students have very valid points to make. I took back with me the sense that I could make a difference.

Chris Laing, University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus

The Rev. Malcolm Frazier is a United Methodist campus minister at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
