“Facebook for Pastors,” an e-book with remarks by the Rev. William Chaney, a Guide in the Baltimore-Washington Conference’s Western Region, is a great introductory resource to this social networking tool.

Facebook, in which communities of “friends” are created, provides opportunities to build relationships and to push information, listen, connect, learn and collaborate.

Individuals appear on Facebook through their “profile.” The average Facebook user has 130 friends. You can have up to 1,500 friends.

Facebook no longer has “fan” pages. Instead, organizations such as churches host pages, which people participate in by declaring they “like” them. Pages allow for multiple administrators.

Relationship are the key in the social media world. Facebook is a place to make, create and develop relationships.
