LANHAM - The United Methodist Women of the Washington-Columbia and Washington East districts held their annual Epworth House fundraiser luncheon March 14 at La Fontaine Bleu restaurant in Lanham.

More than 260 women attended the event on the theme, 'Building Peace, Piece by Piece.' The Rev. Ianther Mills, superintendent of Washington East District, was the luncheon speaker. She challenged listeners to contribute to peace, even in small ways, reported Stephanie Willett, education-interpretation officer for the Epworth House mission.

Epworth House, begun in 1966, is a concept, not a place, 'a virtual house that provides one to two years of financial support for an international student attending Wesley Theological Seminary,' Willett explained.

This year?s recipient is Jeannette Berruecos of Papalotla, Tlaxcala, Mexico. She has a Master?s degree in international trade and is an MDiv candidate at Wesley.
