Welcome services for new District Superintendents begin Sept. 14

Six district superintendents who began their new assignments in the Baltimore-Washington Conference on July 1 will be celebrated and formally welcomed this month during six welcome services that will begin this weekend.

The five new district superintendents and one current DS were appointed and assigned by resident Bishop Marcus Matthews after he took over as the bishop in charge of the Washington Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church in September 2012.

Appointed as new district superintendents were:

• the Rev. Dr. Rebecca Iannicelli as superintendent of the Washington East District;
• the Rev. Edgardo Rivera as superintendent of the Frederick District;
• the Rev. Jongwoo (JW) Park as superintendent of the Central Maryland District;  
• the Rev. Dr. Laura Easto as superintendent of the Baltimore Suburban district; and
• the Rev. Dr. Joseph W. Daniels  as superintendent of the Greater Washington District.

They replaced the Rev. Ianther Mills, the Rev. T.R. Chattin , the Rev. Vivian McCarthy, the Rev. Karin Walker, and the Rev. William Chaney.

The Rev. Cynthia Moore, the former superintendent of the Greater Washington District, was reassigned to lead the Baltimore Metropolitan District. Remaining in their current positions are the Rev. Conrad Link, who leads the Cumberland-Hagerstown District, and the Rev. Evan Young, who serves as superintendent of the Annapolis District.

The bishop's Cabinet, which is led by it dean, the Rev. JW Park, is one of the most diverse in the conference's 229 year history, reflecting the many rich cultural and theological influences that make up the Baltimore-Washington Conference.

Bishop Matthews will lead each service and all Cabinet members are expected to attend. At most of the services, clergy are invited to robe and process in the services.
