Volunteers give 'helping hand'
UPPER FALLS ? Salem UMC is the home of an ecumenical ministry that provides food and other services to those in need.
The Helping Hands Food Pantry is staffed five days a week by volunteers from several churches in the area. They distributed meals to 96 families a couple days before Thanksgiving, and will be providing meals for another 100 families at Christmas.
Volunteers provided more than 2,000 hours of service last year, enabling the food pantry to feed 3,783 families, said the Rev. Cliff Webner. The families were made up of 1,929 children and 854 adults.
