Volunteer par excellence awarded
BRYANS ROAD - A member of Shiloh UMC was named Charles County?s 2006 'Most Beautiful Person' at ceremonies in November.
Gerri Burson of White Plains, who the Maryland Independent said 'looks more like a lady who lunches than one who sorts through donated items at a thrift shop,' retired from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2004, and spends much of her time volunteering. 'I made up my mind to never get burned out,' she said.
She uses her skills as a nurse at a senior center where she often sits with the residents and listens. She also helps plan events and special holiday parties.
At the church, she is working to open a community center that would benefit the western side of the county. The church has property on which to build it. 'It?s my destiny to be a part of it,' she said.
