VIM team helps in post-Katrina recovery

Posted by Bwcarchives on

Twenty-four members and friends of St. Paul?s UMC in Kensington, led by the Rev. Karin Walker (right), worked to prepare eight New Orleans homes for renovation.

After four workdays with sledge hammers, crowbars and brooms, the teams removed wallboard, appliances, carpet, toxic waste and insulation. They pulled hundreds of nails so that remaining were only bare studs, roof rafters and flooring. Eight homeowners, some who still live in other states, are now able to determine their next steps in recovery.

More volunteers are needed. This was the second trip for the Kensington group in the past six months. A youth team is planning to go to New Orleans later this year.

The HOPE Fund, a conferencewide offering is also collecting funds for the rebuilding of churches in the hurricane-ravaged region. For information on how to contribute to the HOPE Fund, contact the Rev. Daryl Williams at
