 UMs to map future

By Melissa Lauber

The registration deadline for the Christmas Conference has been extended indefinately so that anyone who wishes to attend may do so. The meeting, called by Bishop Felton Edwin May, mirrors the historic gathering in Baltimore in 1784 at which the Methodist Episcopal Church was created.

The 2001 Christmas Conference will be held on Dec. 27 from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Lovely Lane UMC in Baltimore. The future of the denomination in Baltimore City will be the topic of this meeting. Currently, less than one percent of the citys population of 60,000 regularly attends a United Methodist church.

Participants at the conference will worship together, identify needs in the city and develop a road map for new mission and ministry.

The Christmas Conference is a part of the Baltimore-Washington Conferences continued effort to meet the spiritual needs of those in the city. Recently, an episcopal office was opened at Lovely Lane UMC. Last summer, several Saving Stations brought evangelism and drug rehab programs to the citys streets as several churches moved out of their buildings for week-long tent ministries.

The cost of the conference is $10. For more information contact Joyce King at (800) 492-2525, Ext. 440.
