KEARNEYSVILLE, W. VA. – The United Methodist Men of Middleway UMC aided an elderly woman who desperately needed a wheelchair ramp to be able to get in and out of her house for her cancer treatments. Without the ramp she would have had to go back to the nursing home she could not afford.

The men volunteered more than 87 hours to build the handicapped accessible ramp, working with the Good Shepherd Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Jefferson County, W.Va. They also relocated a section of fence and gate to provide access to the driveway.

The men appreciated contributions and materials from Universal Forest Products of Ranson, W. Va., Home Depot and the Women’s Class of the church.

They figured the value of the work was about $4,100, but the actual cost was just over $772.
