UMM learn the ways of Washington

Posted by Bwcarchives on

WASHINGTON - United Methodist Men leaders from across the Northeastern Jurisdiction gathered at the General Board of Church and Society in the Methodist Building on Capitol Hill for the first 'Leadership Familiarization' program. Nine of the 13 conferences in the jurisdiction were represented. Seventeen men from the Baltimore-Washington Conference attended.

The idea to get the men?s organization and the church and society board together was the brainchild of Sherman Harris, president of the conference UMM.

Over the three-day event, May 15-17, the men participated in several workshops, visited lawmakers, toured the capitol, the A.P. Shaw UMC area, and held daily worship.

As a result of the event, the men invited G. James Papa, chief of staff to Congressman Rush Holt (N.J.), whom they learned was a fellow United Methodist from the jurisdiction, to be a speaker at the jurisdictional gathering in March 2007. He accepted.
