- An Oklahoma Indian pastor pleaded for the 1996 General Conference to seek forgiveness for an 1864 massacre of 200 peaceful Cheyenne Indians by U.S. irregulars led by a Methodist local preacher.
- UMCOR reported that in 1995 the agency responded to 35 disasters worldwide including the Oklahoma City bombing.
