- President Theodore Roosevelt shook hands with 9,000 White House visitors on New Year?s Day.
- Broadway Methodist Protestant church in Baltimore heard an eloquent sermon from 88-year-old Dr. Southerland.
- Rhode Island Avenue church in Washington, D.C., will break ground in April. It has 668 on the Sunday School roll.

- Baltimore volunteers packed clothes and blankets for airlift to Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

- Staffers for the UM Reporter, who issue 300 weekly editions, had a rare goof in the Baltimore Circuit Rider, repeating the same story three times.

Connection, Jan. 24, 1996
- The Potomac River flooded downtown Hancock and 8,000 fled Susquehanna floodwaters when a blizzard snow pack suddenly melted. Earlier, most churches closed Jan. 7 because of snow.
- Calvary House was opened in Cumberland as a Board of Child Care satellite counseling center.
- The Rev. Edwin Ankeny was named new superintendent of Baltimore North District.
- Apportionments were paid in full by 539 churches, raising percentage paid to 88 percent in 1995.
