Two to fight HIV/AIDS

Posted by Bwcarchives on

Two upcoming events in this area are focusing on help for those who have HIV/AIDS.

Balm in Gilead, Inc. invites area churches to join in the observance of The Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, which will be held March 4-10.

To participate in the Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, visit www.balmingilead.org or call (888) 225-6243.

Moveable Feast, a Baltimore-based organization, prepares and delivers meals and groceries to homebound individuals living with HIV and AIDS, breast cancer and other life-challenging conditions.

Moveable Feast raises a part of its budget by holding a bicycle marathon starting at Rehoboth Beach, Del., and going the 140 miles to Baltimore City.

Ride for the Feast 2007 will be held May 19 and 20, and is now recruiting cyclists. Weekly training rides are provided, led by seasoned riders, to accommodate all skill levels.

The ride starts with an early morning breakfast and stops after completing 100 miles, for an overnight with hot showers, massages, dinner and an opportunity to enjoy new friends. The ride to victory the next day covers the remaining 40 miles.

'One hundred percent of the money raised will be used to feed our neighbors in Maryland who are living with HIV and AIDS,' organizers say. 'All expenses for the Ride will be supported by community-minded business.'
