Susannah Wesley House benefits from fun day

Posted by Bwcarchives on

MONKTON ? When Susannah Wesley House needed a new venue for its spring fundraiser, Monkton UMC volunteered. Board members called most of the 300 ticket holders to say it was no longer scheduled for the park.

The move didn?t dampen anyone?s spirits, said Romaine Towers, treasurer of the Susannah Wesley House board.

The event on April 23 lived up to its billing as being 'filled with fun, food and frivolity,' Towers said. A volleyball tournament had center stage for a while with the Hereford senior UMYF taking first place honors. Some played croquet while others listened to the Stoneleigh Steel Drums, played by the school?s third-graders.

John Wesley and his mother, Susannah Wesley, made an appearance. They were portrayed by the Rev. Emora Brannan and Shirley Whitehurst.

After proceeds from a silent auction were counted, the event raised nearly $4,000 for the Susannah Wesley House.
