A Special Session of the Baltimore-Washington Conference to be held Saturday, Jan. 17

Bishop John R. Schol, in accordance with Para. 603.5 of the Book of Discipline, has called a Special Session of the Baltimore-Washington Conference to be held Saturday, Jan. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Metropolitan Memorial UMC in Washington, D.C.

This called session will be to hear a report of the Conference Center Task Force and vote on its recommendation to purchase and build a conference center for the Baltimore-Washington Conference.

The report is expected to address why the recommendation is to build, as opposed to purchasing existing property or leasing; why the proposal is for the conference center to stay in the Columbia area; and the cost impact to the conference, including long-term savings and benefits.

In addition, a report will be shared on how downturns in the economy are impacting the church and the steps conference leadership, the Council on Finance and Administration and the Discipleship Council will take in 2009 to reduce the benevolence factor and address the needs of local churches and the conference.

Online registration for this event will be held from Dec. 15 through Jan. 3. To be seated on the main floor, one must be a member of the May 2008 Annual Conference or be replacing that individual because they are unable to attend.

Clergy and members to conference can register at www.bwcumc.org/specialsession
