Posted by Bwcarchives on

BETHESDA ? Participating in 'Building a Wesleyan Theology of Peace for the 21st Century,' were left to right, Mubarak Awad, Bishop Forrest Stith, Sandy Ferguson, Arun Gandhi, the Rev. Carlee Hallman and Howard Hallman. The conference took place at Temple UMC in San Francisco, Sept. 28-Oct. 1.

Awad, a Palestinian Christian, and Gandhi, the grand-son of Mahatma Gandhi, were the featured speakers.

The conference sought to apply Wesley?s quadrilateral in the pursuit of peace, said Hallman, a member of Bethesda UMC who organized the event. 'We concluded that there is a Wesleyan theology of peace, derived from John Wesley?s commitment to both personal and social holiness, his concern for personal salvation and social reform.'

Ferguson, who heads the conference?s social justice ministry, is planning ways to involve more people in the peace and justice ministry in the future.
