Six churches sponsor Community Fun Day

Posted by Bwcarchives on

GERMANTOWN - Four United Methodist churches - Bethesda in Damascus, John Wesley in Germantown, Mountain View in Monrovia, and Salem of Cedar Grove - plus two others came together to hold a Community Fun Day Sept 23. About 300 people attended.

Each participating church played a role in its success. The Potomac Valley Assembly of God provided their spacious grounds for the event. Food was donated by two of the churches, soft drinks by another. Others provided numerous games and live music. Bethesda UMC provided a prayer and healing tent. The event also included a moon bounce, puppet show and inflated train.

Each congregation had flyers and brochures available describing their various ministries, said the Rev. Carroll Gunkel, who pastors Salem UMC. 'It is hoped that the best evidence of the effectiveness of the effort will be seen through new people visiting local congregations,' he said.
