United Methodist Community Services premiers online

United Methodist Community Services (UMCS), an agency of the Baltimore-Washington Conference Board of Global Ministries, is launching a new online Human Services Directory.

The directory will be a useful guide for pastors and others called on to recommend assistance and health resources.

Churches will receive an online questionnaire asking them to share information about the assistance and outreach ministries they conduct and the support they offer to community and interfaith ministries.

Each church will be responsible for managing the input of its own data on the Web site, using its Gateway user name and password. They will have the option of making their services known to the general public or only to other conference churches.

Users will be able to search for resources in three major categories: local United Methodist churches, interfaith and community organizations, and government agencies. Searchers will be able to locate resources according to zip code, city, county or state.

The directory project is expected to increase the measure and effectiveness of services the church is able to offer in response to the unprecedented human needs in this area.
