AMES – A huge downpour at 8 a.m. June 20 didn’t stop Ames UMC’s 1st Annual Race to Feed the Hungry 5K Run/2K Walk. Toeing the line were 155 runners and walkers in an effort to support Ames’ vision to feed the hungry daily.

Prizes, random awards, refreshments and music along with the rain made it a great morning, said the Rev. Winifred J. Blagmond, Ames’ pastor. Donna E. Lewis, Ames member and Race Director presented Clifford Giles, coordinator of the Harford Food Bank, with a generous financial donation and an overflow of canned goods, collected from the participants, who included 4,220 race/walk sponsors.

This event was a kick-off for the church to share its vision with the community. Ames would like to be known as one of the suppliers to the Harford Food Bank, Blagmond said. Food is accepted at any time. The community can place cans and non-perishable items in the church or on the doorsteps and it will be transported to the Food Bank.
