ROCK 2003, Confirmation Celebration to attract largest youth gathering

The Baltimore-Washington Conference ROCK Retreat for youth is revving up for the largest attendance in its history.

Nearly 2,000 youth and adult leaders attended the ROCK 2002 event, prompting the retreat planning team to secure use of the entire Ocean City Convention Center for the 2003 event.

We can really attribute the growth to the fact that weve kept God in the center of this retreat, said Rock Chairperson Pam Jones.

The ROCK 2003 Retreat for youth in grades six through 12, scheduled for Jan. 24-26, will feature times of worship, including praise music led by the Christian band Salvador. Steve Fitzhugh, a former National Football League player, will share his Christian witness as the guest speaker. A new addition to the retreat will be the three-person comedy group CPR.

The biggest change to the Rock 2003 event will be the combination of the Confirmation Celebration with the Rock Retreat. The Confirmation Celebration will be one of the many breakout sessions of the retreat. It will be held Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. If they so desire, confirmands may register only for the Confirmation Celebration.

An event of this magnitude requires the work of many staff members and volunteers. Those involved share the vision of building the faith of young people on the solid rock, Jesus Christ, Jones said. Its not our retreat; its not the conferences retreat. We see it as Gods retreat.
