Posted by Bwcarchives on

MIDDLE RIVER- Several members from Orems UMC journeyed to Andrews Air Force Base March 13, carrying lap robes and prayer shawls for an expected 44 wounded soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wounded military all come through Andrews Air Base, where they are processed before being sent to other medical locations.

The Orems members placed a lap robe on each bed. 'The staff was moved and appreciated what was being done for the wounded,' said Jerry Fischer. 'We also gave prayer shawls to families awaiting their loved ones? return.'

Many of the 56 donated lap robes and shawls, all made in red-white-blue colors, were made at senior centers by Orems member Pat Litz?s quilting classes.

Before they were taken to the hospital, they were placed on the altar and the Rev. Ann Atkins held a blessing service.
