BOONSBORO ? The Christian Pre-School at Mt. Nebo UMC recently received a $1,500 grant from the United Methodist Appalachian Ministry Network. The preschool opened in November and is a new enterprise in the Boonsboro area.

The grant is to 'start up a pantry,' said Mary Martin, the program director. It will be used to purchase pots and pans and a new stove to enable the preschool to serve hot lunches to the children each day. There are currently 27 part-time and full-time children and a faculty of three.

'The funds for this grant come from local churches across the denomination who (are) interested in furthering United Methodist ministry in the Appalachian region,' UMAMN's executive coordinator, Sharon Leatherman, said in the letter to the church.

UMAMN is a regional organization that covers the whole Appalachian area from lower New York state to Georgia and Alabama. It includes 23 annual conferences.
