WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Washington Post described Tori Amos' newest album, 'The Beekeeper,' as 'a passionately direct and powerful exploration of spirituality in our modern world.' The album is Amos' ninth.

The singer/songwriter is the daughter of Baltimore-Washington Conference pastor, the Rev. Edison Amos, who retired in 1994, and spends half the year in Florida. He is the president of her publishing company.

'Tori is a child of the church, a little bit cantankerous of the institution,' he said, then added that 'she has more influence over college students than her daddy does.'

She has just released her first book, 'Piece by Piece,' and returned to Washington in March for a book signing.

Of his daughter's musical ability, Edison Amos said, 'She played (on the piano) the whole score of the ?Sound of Music' when she was five.' She was the youngest student at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore.
