Pastor speaks out for equal access

Posted by Bwcarchives on

BALTIMORE - About 75 Christian clergy, including the Rev. Donna Martin, held a press conference Feb. 8, endorsing equal access to marriage for gays and lesbians in Maryland and in support of a suit by same-sex couples, reported the Baltimore Sun.

'As one of the endorsing clergy I am saddened by the deep divisions within our country, the Christian church and within my own United Methodist Church,' Martin told the UMConnection.

'I support healthy committed relationships. And if anything is sacred in the country and in the church it is love and commitment. As Christian leaders, lay and clergy, let us put on the full gear of love, leaving divisiveness behind and uniting in a powerful activism to ensure the full human rights of all persons. God will bless us for it.'
