Pastor gets second chance
JOPPA - When Union Chapel UMC?s pastor, the Rev. Victor Harner, began to have chest pains and a headache, he went to the local hospital emergency room. Everything, except his cholesterol, checked out, and he returned home.
The funny part about this, he said, was just that morning he listened to members of his Disicpler Group talk about self-care and took the message to heart. He?d begun to realize that if he was going to be an effective pastor, husband and father, he needed to make some healthy changes in his life. The afternoon episode pushed him in that direction.
'God has a funny way of driving a point home ? but some of us are slow learners,' he said. 'I?m looking at this as a warning and a big second chance.'
