Pastor celebrates Indonesia's Methodism

Posted by Bwcarchives on

BALTIMORE ? A year ago, the Rev. Robin Johnson attended the '100 Years of Methodism in Indonesia' celebration, held at Emmanuel Methodist Church in Jakarta, Indonesia. Recently, the leader of the Indonesian celebration, Maimunah Natasha, spoke to Johnson?s congregations of Hampden and Mt. Vernon UMCs.

Natasha is a Jakarta business woman and a leader in her local church and the conference. She also served a term on the presidium of the World Methodist Council.

The centennial celebration of Indonesia?s Methodism included an appearance by John Wesley (in a white wig worn by a Javanese man) with his wife Susannah and their brood of children. 'What captivated the congregation the most was the native dances of the different (Indonesian) islands, following the story of the beginning of the Methodist church in that particular location,' Johnson said.

'Thus by sound and appearance, we were treated to a beautiful example of unity in diversity ? of kinship with our Methodist brothers and sisters, half a world away.'
