P2P prompts members to mission

Posted by Bwcarchives on

POOLESVILLE ? The success of their first mission trip to Piketon, Ohio, last year prompted 41 members and friends of Memorial UMC to return to the depressed area to work this year.

The group called themselves 'P2P' for Poolesville to Piketon, for obvious reasons, but also Piketon to Poolesville because 'we gain so much more in return from the homeowners we are privileged to serve,' said Scott McGrew, chairman of the church council and youth leader.

They worked on decks, flooring, gutters and siding. They power-washed, scraped and painted. Participants ate and slept in the Piketon High School. Three of the adult leaders prepared home cooked meals each day.

The group consisted of 18 youth and 23 adults. 'The shared experience of the mission trip has helped bring our youth and adults even closer together,' McGrew commented.

Emma Cook, a new ninth grader, is ready to go again. 'This is my first time doing this and I plan to do it again,' she said.
