Rev. Basil Day Jr.The Rev. Basil Boyer Day Jr. 54, died Sept. 8, 2012, at his home in Westminster. A private memorial service and interment were done at his cherished family farm.
 
He was born Jan. 14, 1958, the son of Sally Jo Eisenbeis Day, a retired Elder, and Basil Boyer Day Sr. of Carroll Valley, Pa. 
 
Day graduated from Linganore High School in 1976. He graduated from Messiah College, Princeton Theological Seminary and Wesley Theological Seminary and was ordained an Elder in 1988.
 
While a Probationary Member, he served at Bolivar UMC in West Virginia. In 1988, he was then appointed to the Howard Chapel- Ridgeville Charge in Mt. Airy and served there until 1995. From then to 1997, he served Emmanuel Bethel UMC in Cumberland, then to the Shenandale Charge in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., for three years. In 2000, he was appointed to Deer Park UMC in Westminster, where he was until 2010 when he took a Leave of Absence. 
 
Day was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, organ, clarinet and guitar. During his youth he was a member of the Browningsville Cornet Band. He enjoyed music, singing, chess, solving calculus problems and reading. He shared his mathematical and musical gifts with his sons. He also served as the chaplain for Troop No. 9, his son Evan's Boy Scout troop. 
 
Survivors include his wife Cindy Thomas Day of Westminster, parents of Fairfield, Pa., and sons Ethan Stefan Day and Evan Thomas Day of Westminster. He is also survived by a sister, nieces and nephews, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
