Margaret Ann “Margy” Bowen,78, the wife of retired pastor, Rev. Kenneth Bowen, died Sept. 15, 2013, one day before her 78th birthday. A funeral was held at the Rausch Funeral Home in Port Republic Sept. 19 with the Rev. Jim Secker officiating.

She was born Sept. 16, 1935, in Lancaster, Kentucky to the late James and Lucinda Holmes.

Margy Bowen attended Asbury College and Georgia Baptist Nursing School and Training Hospital. She worked as a nurse at University Hospital in Baltimore for 32 years, retiring in 1992.

She and Kenneth Bowen married in 1959 and had three children. Their son, David Lee Bowen, preceded her in death.

She was a faithful member of the many congregations where her husband served. These included the Emory Circuit in Upperco from 1960-63; then to Baltimore to serve Roland Ave., later combined with Evergreen, until 1969. From 1969-1972, they were in Galesville, then Sexton until 1978. From 1978-1984, his appointment was to Beechfield in Baltimore. In 1984, he was appointed to Wesley Chapel in Jessup, then in 1988 to the Fork-Waugh Charge in Fork. His last appointment in 1994 was to the Solomons Charge, from which he retired in 1997. However, his preaching career did not end there. He was called back into service as a part-time pastor at Pisgah UMC, serving there until 2011.

Survivors include, in addition to her husband of 53 years, a daughter Barbara Bowen of Prince Frederick; son Mark Bowen of Grasonville; and three grandchildren.

Condolences may be sent to Rev. Kenneth Bowen, 4880 Hallowing Point Road, Prince Frederick, MD 20678.
