Obituaries - September 15, 2013 - Erdella Hannen

Erdella Hannen, 93, wife of the late Rev. William Robert Hannen, died Sept. 15 at Valley Hospice Trinity East in Steubenville, Ohio. A funeral service was held Sept. 18 at the Colliers UMC in Colliers, W. Va., with the Rev. Don Stilgenbauer officiating.

Erdella Jane Daugherty was born Jan. 11, 1920,in Kittaning, Pa., to the late Marlin H. and Georgetta Bleakney Daughtery.

She and William R. Hannen married in 1945, a few months after he was released from a WW II POW camp. They had no children.

William Hannen was ordained an Elder in 1961 and began serving churches in the Baltimore-Washington Conference in 1963. His first appointment was to Parkton, where he stayed for three years. In 1968, he was appointed to Mt. Zion UMC in Lothian for two years, then to West Liberty Charge for the next eight. In 1978, he began serving at the Texas Charge from which he retired in 1981. He died in 2011.

Erdella Hannen was a registered nurse and worked at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Baltimore for 30 years. After retirement and their move to West Virginia, she was an active member of the Colliers UMC in Weirton, W. Va., their home church before his call to ministry.

At various times she was also active with the Kiwanis, Kings Daughters and Sons Steubenville Chapter, Yellow Creek Chapter EX American POW.

She is survived by her three brothers: Doran Daugherty of Colliers, W.Va., Eugene Daugherty of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Richard Daugherty of Nashville, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, a brother preceded her in death.
