Obituaries - October 3, 2011 - Rev. Pennell "Penny" V. Jester

Pennell JesterThe Rev. Pennell "Penny" V. Jester, 89, a retired Local Pastor, died Oct. 3, 2011, at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center. A funeral service was held Oct. 11, at the Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena.

He was born Jan. 31, 1922, in Stillpond, Kent County, to the late James A. and Lucille Jester. He graduated from Sykesville Senior High School in 1940 and joined the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Jester served United Methodist churches for 22 years from 1968 to 1990, including Mt. Carmel in Pasadena, 1969-1973; Chesaco Avenue in Baltimore from 1974-1979; then Faith in Pasadena until 1983; and Solley, Solley-Marley and Marley from 1983 until he retired in 1990.

During these ministry years, from 1962 until 1985, he was also a letter carrier in Catonsville for the US Postal Service.

Jester was a member of Community UMC in Pasadena; the King David Lodge #68 where he was a past master; the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters in the MD Community #1 & Concordia Chapter #3; and the Eastern Star Arundel Chapter. His hobbies included reading, fishing, crabbing and taking car trips.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Laura V. Jester; sons Pennell J. Jester of Glen Burnie, Dennis B. Jester Sr. of Pasadena, Neil W. Jester of Stevensville; and Otto P. Jester of Salisbury; a daughter, Claudine M. J. Castro of Hampstead, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
