Evelyn McIntosh, 92, the wife of the late Rev. Donald McIntosh, died Oct. 25, 2013, in Boca Raton, Fla. A funeral service was held Nov. 1 at the Trinity UMC in Berne, Ind., with her nephew, the Rev. David Dyck, officiating.

Evelyn Neuenschwander was born Jan. 3, 1921, in Freeman, S.D., to Elmer and Alina (Sprunger) Neuenschwander. She attended Central Academy in McPherson, Kan., and graduated from Fort Wayne (Ind.) Bible Institute. Soon after graduation, she married fellow student, Donald McIntosh.

They served four pastorates in Maryland: Darlington and Rock Run, 1944-46; Union Bridge in 1946-51; the Hamstead Circuit from 1951 to 1958; and St. John’s Hampstead, 1958-64. From 1964-69, they served the Anacostia UMC in Washington, D.C. She was an accomplished pianist, and played regularly for vesper services.

In 1969, Bishop John Wesley Lord appointed him as director of an infant missionary organization, Chinese Overseas Christian Mission, Inc., later known as China Outreach Ministries, started by missionaries, the late Rev. James H. Pyke and his parents. COM is still based in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Evelyn McIntosh continued as Board Member Emeritus of COM until her death.

The McIntoshes traveled extensively in India, China and other countries as part of their ministry activities. Following his retirement in 1982, they moved to Florida and coordinated mission festivals and promoted COM support throughout the U.S. He died in 1997. A few years ago, in her late 80s, she and her sister travelled on an Alaskan cruiser.

Nephew Dale Dyck wrote, “There were many interesting conversations and stories shared during (her) visits (for 15 years). … If a hymn or carol was in order, you could be sure Aunt Evelyn would help to lead it.”

She was a regular constituent of the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., until failing health confined her to St. Andrews Estates. She is survived by a sister, Edna Dyck, of Wakarusa, Ind., and nieces and nephews.

Memorial gifts may be made to China Outreach Ministries, 555 Gettysburg Pike, Suite A-200, Mechanicsburg, PA. 17055.
