Obituaries - October 21, 2010 - Lillian Pferdeort

Lillian Lorraine Rigney Pferdeort, 89, the wife of the late Rev. George Pferdeort, died Oct. 21. The Rev. John Campbell officiated at a memorial service at Fallston UMC in Fallston Nov. 21.

She and George Pferdeort married during World War II in which he served as a chaplain’s assistant. She assisted him throughout college and seminary. They had four children and were married 64 years before his death in late 2006. From 1939 to 1996, they parented a foster daughter, Dorothy Jean Elliott Payne.

She was a faithful pastor’s wife throughout his 35 years of active ministry, which included churches in Union Chapel and Darlington as a supply pastor, then appointments to Hereford, Fallston and Aldersgate in the 1950s, Homestead in 1964, Bethany UMC in Ellicott City in 1968, Glen Burnie UMC in 1976 and Wesley Grove UMC in 1981. He retired in 1984, but continued as a chaplain for 10 more years at a Masonic Home.

She participated in United Methodist Women, sang in choirs, played organ, supported missions and golden agers groups. She held leadership positions with the Girl Scouts of America. Also for much of her adult life she worked in various secretarial positions, including social security, insurance and medical.

She was an active life member and past worthy matron of the Arlington and Towson chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star; and was very active in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, serving at one time as grand deputy for the state of Maryland.

Survivors include her sons, Daniel Pferdeort of Bel Air, Thomas Pferdeort of Essex, and James Pferdeort, of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter Deborah Bonds of Baltimore.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
