Gail Hoyt Chase Kimmell, 91, the wife of the late Rev. Elmer L. “Kim” Kimmell, died Oct. 12 in Milan, N.H. She had been in deteriorating health for some time. A memorial service was held in South Dartmouth, Mass., Nov. 6.

Kimmell was a devoted wife for 66 years, until her husband’s death in 2007.

The Rev. Kimmell served Arbutus UMC from 1939 to 1943, when he entered the Navy as a chaplain in the Pacific Theater. In 1946 for three years, the Kimmells lived in Bourne, Mass., then returned to the Baltimore Conference where he was appointed to Bells UMC in Camp Springs.

From 1955 for the next 11 years, they lived in Baltimore when he was appointed to Wilson Memorial Church. In 1966, he was appointed to Chevy Chase UMC and remained until his retirement in 1980. It was a wonderful appointment for him and his wife and both are remembered fondly by church members today.

She served by her husband’s side throughout his ministerial career, particularly singing in church choirs.

In high school, Gail Kimmell was known for her talent in acting and dance productions, as well as playing the violin in the orchestra. She later taught a dance class in high school.

She had a degree as a secondary school teacher, but over the years taught nursery school, kindergarten and Junior High as well as High School.

After retirement the Kimmells settled in Massachusetts and enjoyed an active life of entertaining, boating at their cottage at Bay View, South Dartmouth, golfing and staying in Florida in the winter. They traveled to Israel, England, Scotland, Switzerland and Italy.

Survivors include three children: Glenn A. Kimmell of Fairfax County, Va., Bradford L. Kimmell of Brinklow, and Sharon G. Michalik of Milan, N.H., and three grand-children.

Condolences may be sent to Sharon Michalik, 147 Spruceville Road, Milan, NH 03588.
