Obituaries - October 11, 2011 - Rev. Arthur Frederick Walz Jr.
The Rev. Arthur Frederick Walz Jr., 71, a retired Elder, died at his residence in Lexington, Ky. Oct.11, 2011, from cancer which was first diagnosed six years ago. The Rev. Steve Drury officiated at a funeral service Oct. 15 at Trinity Hill UMC in Lexington.
He was a 1964 graduate of Asbury University and a 1969 graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary.
During his 40 years in ministry, he served at Aldersgate UMC in Baltimore, from 1969 to 1976; St. Andrews UMC in Hagerstown, 1976-1979; First UMC in Berkeley Springs, W. Va., 1979-1988; Hollywood UMC, 1988 to 1994; Smithville UMC in Dunkirk,1994-2003; and Patapsco UMC in Dundalk, from 2003 until he retired in 2009, and moved to Lexington, Ky.
Walz was a gardener, enjoying the vegetable garden he maintained in the back yard. He also raised hybrid tea roses.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Prudence Mae Wienhold Walz; a daughter, Jennifer Lynne Walz of Lexington; two sons, Jonathan Frederick Walz of Winter Park, Fla. and Jerald Henry Walz of Blacksburg, Va.
