Obituaries - May 27, 2011 - John W. Farris

John FarrisJohn W. Farris, 77, a Local Pastor serving Mt. Zion and Paw Paw UMCs on the Great Cacapon Charge, died May 27, 2011, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va. A funeral service was held at Trinity UMC  in Terra Alta, W. Va., with the Rev. Frankie Revell officiating.

Farris was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion and a Mason.

He worked at Clem Teets Oil Company for many years and retired from Parts Plus. He was a farmer and loved to spend time at the family farm at Great Cacapon.

Farris served churches for more than 10 years as a lay pastor in Morgan County, including Michael UMC, Mahnes UMC, and the Great Cacapon Charge that included Mt. Zion UMC (Orleans) and Paw Paw UMC, which he was serving at the time of death.

His first marriage to Anna "Bonnie" Shrout ended in divorce. They had two children.

He was preceded in death by a son by his second wife, James Mark Farris, who died in 2009.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth R. Farris; son, Robert Farris of Berkeley Springs, W. Va., and daughter, Diane Farris of Great Cacapon; step-son Todd Deahl of Terra Alta, W. Va., and step-daughter, Sherri Murphy of Lothian; and two grand children.
