Janet AlexanderDoris Janet Kline Alexander, 71, the wife of the Rev. Kenneth Lee Alexander, a former pastor of the Baltimore-Washington Conference, died May 10, 2011, in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. A funeral service was held May 13, in The Ministry Center of St. Andrews Anglican Church.  Burial is in Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham.

She and Kenneth Alexander married in 1962, the day after they both graduated from Duke University, and left for the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference.  Most of his ministerial career, from 1974 until he retired in 1992 was as an Army Chaplain. He transferred from the W. Texas Conference in 1962 and was appointed to Lanham, followed by Smithville in 1964-65. He had a stint as a chaplain from 1966-69, then returned to parish ministry at Oakland UMC in Sykesville, from 1970-72. After a year of schooling, he returned to the chaplaincy and remained there until he retired in 1992 and moved to South Carolina. He relinquished his membership in the Baltimore-Washington Conference in 1995. He was ordained a Deacon in the Anglican church in 1996, and subsequently served as a priest.

As a military wife, Janet Alexander moved as her husband had new assignments, living near bases in Kentucky, Kansas, Maryland, Hawaii and Germany. During his Vietnam years, she lived near Philadelphia. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Duke University, taught elementary school for a short time, and was a substitute teacher at different places they lived. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Doug Alexander of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; two daughters, Donna Fritter of Bowie, and Cindy LaTorre of Davidsonville, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
