Gladys TwiggGladys Twigg, 84, the wife of the Rev. Ernest Twigg, died June 14, 2010, in Pasadena. Funeral services were held June 18 at Magothy United Methodist Chapel in the Woods in Pasadena.

Gladys Schlag was born May 14, 1926, in her parents’ bakery on Eager St. in Baltimore. She was educated at the Institute of Notre Dame where she excelled, and exhibited her gift of music.

She received a B.S. degree from Western Maryland College and there she met and married Ernest Robert Twigg. Together they attended Garrett Evangelical Seminary in Evanston, Ill. She also earned a Master’s Degree from Northwestern University on full merit scholarship.

Rev. Ernest Twigg’s first appointment was to Magothy Methodist Church in Pasadena in 1952. They stayed there 13 years and subsequently served at Perry Hall briefly, then Wesley Grove from 1965-1971, and Davidsonville UMCs. He retired from Davidsonville in 1995 after 24 years as pastor.

Gladys Twigg was a school teacher recognized by some of her 3rd and 4th grade students as the best teacher they ever had. She was a camp counselor, piano teacher, Girl Scout leader and choir director. She was often asked to fill in on the organ at her husband’s churches.

In her early 60s she went back to school and became a Registered Nurse and worked at North Arundel Hospital for many years.

As a seasoned camper, from 1963 to 2002, every summer she tented and later trailered at Cape Point Campground on the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

Twigg was a person of many practical capabilities in both work and recreation; she was known as a generous and creative, tireless worker, who lived her Christian faith in a way that inspired and encouraged everyone she met.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, now blind and in an assisted living home in Pasadena; a daughter, Linda Fuller Silver of Newport News, Va., two sons, Daniel Ernest Twigg of Pasadena, and Douglas Robert Twigg of Annapolis with whom she lived the last few years; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
