Obituaries - July 23, 2010 - Rev. Kenneth Aubrey Tyson

The Rev. Kenneth Aubrey Tyson, 85, died July 23, 2010, at the Health Care Center of Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick. The Rev. Kenneth Dunnington officiated at a memorial service at Calvary UMC in Frederick July 31. The Revs. Raymond Moreland, Harry C. Cole and Sarah A. Schlieckert participated in the service.

Tyson was a veteran of World War II, serving for three years in the U.S. Navy in the European and Pacific theaters. After discharge, he decided to enter the ministry and attended Western Maryland College (now McDaniel0) and Westminster Theological Seminary (now Wesley Seminary). He was ordained an Elder in 1955.

Tyson served churches in the Baltimore-Washington Conference for nearly 40 years, since 1953 when he was appointed to Linganore-Liberty. In 1958 he moved to Timonium and in 1969, to Calvary UMC in Frederick. In 1975 he served Bethesda UMC in Bethesda, until 1980 when he became superintendent of the Hagerstown District for one term, at which time, 1984, he became the conference business manager/treasurer. He retired at the end of 1992.

In addition to his professional service to the conference, he participated in many community and religious organizations in the communities where he lived.

He and Lois Fry married in 1947. They had three children.

He was pre-deceased by a son, Wayne Kenneth Tyson, who died in 1974.

Survivors include his wife and two daughters: Wanda T. Severence of McHenry, and Janet M. Tyson of Bethesda.
