Obituaries - July 22, 2011 - Pauline Sraver

Pauline SraverPauline Sraver, 83, the spouse of the late Pastor Charles "Chuck" Sraver, died July 22 from heart and kidney difficulties. The Rev. Malcolm Stranathan officiated at a Service of Death and Resurrection July 26 at Mt. Zion UMC in Highland.

Pauline Poffenberger was born in Century, W. Va., May 15, 1928, to Jennings and Bonnie (True) Poffenberger. She and Charles Sraver were married42 years before his death. He had served as a "Supply pastor", the equivalent in today's church of a Local Pastor, at Marley, Mt. Zion and Harwood Park Methodist Churches in 1963 and 1966 to 1971.

Sraver worked as a "temporary" postal clerk at the Highland Post Office for 27 years. She retired in 1992. She was very active in Mt. Zion UMC for the last 48 years. She sang in the church choir, earned a lifetime membership pin in United Methodist Women, was head of the flower committee for more than 25 years and worked on many other committees and the altar guild.

She had a passion for bowling, something she'd done since she was 14 years old. She began with duck pins, then moved to ten pins. She helped start the church's bowling league.

She loved large family gatherings, especially summer crab feasts, where she was known for making "the best crab cakes in Maryland."

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a baby son, Adam Bryan Sraver.

Survivors include her daughters, Charlene Fitzpatrick of Gallup, N.M., and Bonnie Luepkes of Highland; son Chip Craver of Columbia; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
