Obituaries - July 22, 2010 - John Holliday

John Holliday,79, the husband of the Rev. Mildred Wright Holliday, a retired Elder who pastors Carter’s UMC in Friendship, died July 22, 2010. He had Alzheimer’s disease. The Rev. Walter Middlebrooks officiated at a funeral at Asbury UMC July 28.

At the time of his death, he was an active member of Asbury UMC in Annapolis.

Holliday was in the Korean War, serving from 1951-53, and a year later, he married Mildred Wright, an elementary school teacher in Anne Arundel County. The ministry was a secondary career, which she began in 1986. Holliday was supportive of his wife’s new vocation. They maintained their Annapolis home as she served Zion Wesley UMC most of the time from 1988 to 2004 when she retired. For a year her pastorate included St. Matthew’s UMC as part of a charge. After retirement, in 2005, she was hired to pastor Carter’s UMC and remains there.

Holliday worked as a guard at the Naval Research Center and the Naval Academy. He sang in the choir at Asbury UMC.

Survivors include his wife, a son John Holliday III in Pennsylvania, a daughter Cecilia M Holliday Derrick from Annapolis, and two grandchildren.
