Elizabeth KeperlingElizabeth Z. Keperling, 86, the wife of the Rev. Ira C. Keperling, died Jan. 27, 2011, following a lengthy illness, in York, Pa.

She was born in Boonsboro, the daughter of the late Rev. Roy R. and Cora Zeigler.

She and Ira Keperling were married in 1944, before he entered the ministry. Their partnership in marriage began before he became a pastor and lasted throughout his ministry and beyond. They had three sons who survive.

The Rev. Ira Keperling served churches from 1949, first Evangelical United Brethren, then after the merger in 1968, United Methodist. These included 1949-1958 at Manchester; 1958-1963, Winterstown, Pa., 1963-1970, Emmanuel in Hagerstown; 1970-1979, Govans; 1979-1983, Mowatt Memorial in Greenbelt; 1983-1985, Rehoboth in Williamsport. In 1985 he went on a Leave of Absence and retired in 1985.

Elizabeth Keperling was a licensed practical nurse graduate of Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, where she worked on the nursing staff following graduation.

She was an active member of Messiah UMC in York, Pa., for the past 15 years.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, one of whom was her twin, and a sister.

Survivors include her husband of York, Pa.; sons David L. Keperling of Spring Grove, Pa., Paul L. Keperling of Narberth, Pa., and Robert E. Keperling of Lavonia, Ga.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
