Obituaries - January 24, 2011 - Rev. Thomas Joon Hwa Ahn
The Rev. Thomas Joon Hwa Ahn, 70, an Elder in the Baltimore-Washington Conference, died Jan. 24, 2011. The Rev. Paul Shin officiated at his funeral service Jan. 27 at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Inc., in Silver Spring.
Ahn came to the United States from Korea in the 1950s and graduated from Duke Divinity School in 1966. He made the U.S. his permanent residence in 1975.
He pastored Korean churches. They included Wesley Korean in Silver Spring for four years , Korean First UMC in Hyattsville from 1977 to 1982; Korean First in Mount Ranier 1982-1985; and 10 years at the Korean UMC on Cedar Lane in Beltsville. He retired in 2005.
During retirement he worked in commercial real estate investment.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Young “Sally” Ahn of Brookeville; daughter Aeun “Sarah” Conely of Brookeville, son Dong Won Ahn of South Riding, Va., and four grandchildren.
