Obituaries - January 16, 2014 - Marjorie E. "Marge" Wilson

Marjorie E. “Marge” Wilson, 91, wife of the late Rev. Gordon Wilson, died Jan. 16, 2014, at the Carmel Place Retirement Home in Charlotte, N.C. A memorial service was held Feb. 8 at her retirement home, officiated by the Rev. Josh Sherfey of First UMC in Taylorsville, N.C.

Marjorie Dates was born in Red Creek, NY, July 13, 1922, to the late Clarence Dates and Cora Richardson Dates. She was a graduate of the Red Creek High School.

She married the Rev. Gordon Wilson in 1943 and supported his varied ministry for 56 years through pastorates in San Jose, Calif., and while he attended school in Syracuse, N.Y. They moved to Washington, DC, after post graduate work in financial management and a certificate in Religious Organization Management. He was a part-time instructor and consultant for the Center for Church Management at American University, while serving as Minister of Management at Bethesda UMC from 1964 to 1969. He then became Director of Goodwill Industries in Frederick for two years. From 1971-1987, he served five churches on the Urbana Circuit. Together they ran an antique and gift shop in Woodsboro, Md., and gift shops in Fort Mill, S.C., and Charlotte, N.C. He died Easter Sunday, 1999.

They relocated to Charlotte, N.C., in 1988.

Her body was donated to the Bowman Gray Medical College at Wake Forest School of Medicine. Interment of ashes will be in early 2015 at Pleasant Valley UMC in Smithsburg.

Survivors include a son, Ted Wilson of Finksburg, a daughter Wendy Linger of Charlotte, NC, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Marilyn Pasley of Midland, Va.
