Obituaries - December 23, 2009 - Dorothy Sowers
Dorothy Sowers, 78, the widow of the late Pastor William A. Sowers, died suddenly from a stroke at her home in Cumberland Nov. 15, 2009. There was no funeral.
She and William Sowers were married 57 years before his death in 2006. He was an auto body technician who retired in 1975 with a disability. He was lay leader in his church and shortly after his retirement began college in order to meet the requirements to be a local pastor. He served the Piney Plains UMC and Catalpa UMC for three years from 1988 to 1991.
Dorothy Sowers was a homemaker all her life, and when her husband entered the ministry, she joined him wholeheartedly. "She did everything he did," said her daughter Evelyn Davies. Sowers also enjoyed painting and needlework.
In addition to her daughter, survivors include a son, William A. Sowers III, with whom she lived, and two grandchildren.
